Legendary choreographer and director Bob Fosse’s loosely autobiographical film based on his life. Roy Scheider delivers a powerhouse performance as the director of a Broadway production whose workaholic lifestyle is punctuated by a substance abuse problem that allows him to keep up with his various relationships and demanding career. This wildly imaginative musical with dazzling dance numbers is one of the most creatively ambitious films of the ‘70s. All That Jazz was nominated for 9 Academy Awards, won the Palme d’Or and even had Stanley Kubrick calling it “the best film I think I have ever seen.”
Dr. Thomas Powers teaches English at Montgomery County Community College, where he has recently developed and taught a course on the graphic novel. He is also the author of Gender and the Quest in British Science-Fiction Television: An Analysis of Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, Red Dwarf and Torchwood (McFarland, 2016) and has composed numerous articles for the Eisner-Award-winning Back Issue! magazine, which specializes in Bronze Age comics history.
