We have partnered with our friends from Eco Justice Collaborative of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Friends and Gwynedd Friends Meeting to welcome Director Glenn Holsten, Creative Director Penny Ashman, EQUAT CEO Ingrid Lakey, and Documentary subject George Lakey to join us for an in-person post film Q&A on this new documentary.
CITIZEN GEORGE presents the life and work of 86-year-old Quaker activist George Lakey, a nonviolent revolutionary who has worked for justice and peace his entire life, guided by his ideal of societal transformation. The film highlights specific events of George's activist life, including fighting for civil rights, anti-Vietnam War activism, LGBTQ rights, human rights in Sri Lanka, and climate justice. This documentary also details George's personal journey as a husband, father, and out gay man. Pivotal scenes of George's life are illustrated through animated sequences that are inspired by graphic novels.
