COLD WAR IN PHILLY revisits the 1976 clash between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Soviet Red Army, where grit met precision - capturing a defining, Cold War era moment in hockey history. Through candid interviews with players, coaches, media, and fans, the film captures the intensity of that moment while painting a vivid portrait of the Flyers’ hard-nosed identity and the passion of their fan base.
About Flyers legends, Joe and Jim Watson:
- Joe Watson was one of the first hockey players drafted during the NHL expansion draft in 1967 for the newly created Philadelphia Flyers. Little did he know when he left the Boston Bruins that this unexpected career change would lead him to play on a two-time Stanley Cup champion team, eventually becoming known as the iconic Broad Street Bullies.
- Jim Watson played for ten seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) and for the Philadelphia Flyers from 1973 to 1982. With the Flyers he won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1974 and 1975. He is forever remembered as a member of the Broad Street Bullies. He was inducted into the Flyers' Hall of Fame February 2016. Internationally Watson played two games in the 1976 Canada Cup for Canada.

As President of USA Home Entertainment in 2000, Amodei shepherded films like Steven Soderbergh’s TRAFFIC, Spike Jones’ BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, and Robert Altman’s GOSFORD PARK into the home entertainment world. Since then, Amodei went off on his own to create Virgil Films and Entertainment. Under Amodei’s leadership, the company has released such award-winning hits as SUPER SIZE ME, I AM CHRIS FARLEY and RESTREPO. Amodei also put his efforts into producing with his first film being the Clarence Clemons doc WHO DO I THINK I AM directed by Nick Mead. COLD WAR IN PHILLY is his directorial debut.
