Following the film we will have a conversation with director, producer, and screenwriter, Whit Stillman. This event is FREE for Members.
Whit Stillman’s classic comedy-of-manners follows a group of wealthy, young Manhattanites home from college as they navigate the complicated world of gossip, drama, and debutante balls. A high point in American independent cinema, Stillman earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay in his debut feature.
Acclaimed director Whit Stillman joins us in person at the Ambler to present a new restoration of his breakthrough comedy of manners, Metropolitan. A defining name of the 90's independent cinema scene, Stillman created the template for witty films about hyper-literate, preppy socialites that set the table for Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach. His impressive filmography includes titles such as Barcelona, The Last Days of Disco, Damsels in Distress, and his most recent film, Love & Friendship, which brought his stylistic charm to the world of Jane Austen.
